As the forms of society change, the senses of community based on various social contexts are developed toward the interdependences between community members and groups. Sanders believed that individuals' collective strength of the senses of community comes from the relationships between ”individual and group” and ”individual and society”, which, in other words, the development of the sense of community can be encouraged through the group participations and activities of individuals, as well the individuals' appreciations and accommodations of the community. The discussions of these two relationships could include activities based on all kinds of individuals, groups, and communities. This article would like to get into this subject from the community leisure point of view, and focuses on the community serious leisure groups to discuss its relationship with the development of the sense of community. Based on the discussions on 1) internal and external ”facilitating backgrounds” that come from group's responsibilities and reciprocations, and links between group and public sector, as well group and private sector; and 2) ”facilitating themes” (derived from McKnight's ”community themes”) that are contents of activities of community serious leisure groups assisting the development of the sense of community, this study proposes a model integrating ”facilitating backgrounds” and ”facilitating themes” to elaborate how community serious leisure groups facilitate the development of the sense of community.
