A survey of using face mask platforms to prevent COVID-19 pandemic

摘要

In late December 2019, a novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was identified as an infectious disease and has spread globally, resulting in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic from 2019 to 2021. Epidemic prevention supplies are critical resources to prevent COVID-19 invasion; one of them is face masks. Regretfully, at the beginning of 2020, this kind of low value resource is scarce not only in Taiwan but in the whole world, especially in the United States and European countries. Therefore, how to efficiently manage this substantial resource is the responsibility of government. Taiwan government has requested civil power to cooperate in developing face mask platforms, called mask-supplied information transitional-platform (MIT), to distribute face masks so that each public has a fair opportunity to acquire them. This study provides a survey from MIT users to comprehend their background, motivation of using MIT, and perception of COVID-19. The finding of this study revealed the initial attitude of the Taiwanese people facing COVID-19, and provided some clues to explain why the COVID-19 epidemic in Taiwan is not of outbreak in 2020.
