Concerns over the Life and Health of Alien Brides from Southeastern Asia and Mainland China

摘要

外籍新娘已經在台灣盛行。民國91年登記的168,800對新婚中有44,843新娘是外來的，大部分來自大陸(61.9%)和東南亞國家(37.3%)。大部分的新郎是從事勞動工作的弱勢皆衆，而新娘也是來自在他們故鄉屬低社經地位的家庭。根據1983～2002年有注册登記外籍的新娘記錄，其生育率高達12%。不斷增加的外籍新娘反應台灣社會持續增加的健康負擔，包括外籍新娘家庭的健康照護和子女教育問題。尤其是外籍新娘反應台灣社會持續增加的健康負擔，包括外籍新娘家庭的健康照護和子女教育問題。尤其是外籍新娘的遺傳性疾病值得我們去探討，如乙型海洋性貧血及血色素E症。政府等相關單位應提供適當且有效的健康促進衛生教育、醫療照護措施與疾病預防的策略，以增進外籍與大陸配偶個人及其家庭之健康與幸福。

International or cross-cultural marriages have become prevalent in Taiwan. Among the 168,800 newly married couples as registered in 2002 in Taiwan, there were 44,843 alien brides mostly from Mainland China (61.9%) and the Southeastern Asian countries (37.3%). Most grooms were from families of lower or middle class engaging in blue-collar jobs. These brides were also likely from lower socioeconomic status (SES) in their homelands. The fertility rate of the registered alien brides from 1983 to 2002 was 12%. The growing number of alien brides reflects increasing health care burdens of the society in Taiwan, including providing health care for the families and education for their offsprings. Especially, those hereditary diseases of the alien brides deserre us to explore, such as β-thalassemia and hemoglobin E. The government should support proper and efficient health education, medical care facilities and the policies for disease prevention to promote the health and happiness of the alien brides' family and themselves.
