Objectives: This study used qualitative research methods to explore the stress and load of female caregivers. Methods: The data was collected between the 12th of May and the 27th of May 2008, and the participants were caregivers at a long-term care center in the Datong district of Taipei. We interviewed four full-time female caregivers who were older than 60 years old. Process recordings were used to record the contents of the interviews, and content analysis was then utilized to analyze the data. Results: The following conclusions were reached based on the results. (1) The support systems and resources were not sufficient for the female caregivers. (2) The health status of the female caregivers had changed. (3) The female caregivers lacked a balance between receiving love and being loved. Conclusions: It is hoped that the study findings will help health professionals understand the stress and load placed on older female caregivers. Future studies need to develop interventions that will help to reduce the stress and load on these female caregivers.
