Design and Application of Questionnaire on Firefighters' CPR Skill Learning

Purposes The purpose of the study was to investigate the application of the CPR skill learning questionnaire on firefighters' CPR skill learning. Methods The primary research tools included (1) the scores obtained on CPR procedures of the New Taipei City Fire Department by participants, who were grouped into high-score and low-score groups and (2) the questionnaire designed by the researcher. The participants were 188 overall, and they provided 150 valid questionnaires for analysis in the pilot study. The software for statistical analysis used was IBM SPSS for Windows version 20.0, with Cronbach's α and exploratory factor analysis to test for reliability and validity, respectively. The participants were firefighters who had not undergone EMT training and were serving in the New Taipei City county Fire Department. The 128 participants provided 100 valid questionnaires for analysis in the study. The hypothesis of this study was that, after EMT training, the researcher-designed learning questionnaire could evaluate the CPR skill, knowledge, attitude, and resources of the participants on different levels. An independent sample t-test and Pearson's correlation analysis were applied to analyze the questionnaire on CPR skill learning. Results The results showed that the high score group was significantly better at most aspects of CPR skill, knowledge, and attitude; nevertheless, the use of the bag valve mask was found to be difficult for both groups. The low score group had higher scores on CPR resources, with significant effects on the learning environment and atmosphere. Conclusions Designed with acceptable reliability and validity, the CPR learning questionnaire was suitable for understanding firefighters' CPR skill, knowledge, attitude, and resources. The questionnaire would therefore be a useful tool in teaching in the future.
