English Majors' Experiences and Perceptions of Learning English during Summer Vacations

The purposes of this research were to investigate college English majors' experiences and perceptions of learning English during summer vacations, and to determine if any differences regarding students' experiences and perceptions exist between school divisions, among years in college, and between genders. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data from all English majors at a technological university. The results indicate that most of the English majors lacked learner autonomy, despite a generally positive attitude toward vacation English learning and a preference for self-direction. Suggestions are given for teachers to help enhance students' English learning motivation and abilities to use English learning resources and strategies during summer vacations.
