Nausea and vomiting are the most common side effects of chemotherapy that present major challenges to healthcare providers. This article describes the pathogenesis, physical and psychological effects, clinical assessment, management and nursing care of patients experiencing nausea and vomiting. The goals are (1) to increase nursing staff knowledge about chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, (2) to provide appropriate assessment and care, and (3) to improve patient quality of life by reduction of symptoms and related stress.
