New Theoretical Perspectives on Regionalism in South America: Debating an Uncertain Scenario

摘要

The aim of this article is to question the rise of post-hegemonic regionalism in South America by assessing how innovative and groundbreaking its results have been. To this purpose, we start by describing the political context, followed by a discussion about the characteristics and objectives of post-hegemonic or post-liberal regionalism. The goal of this part is to reflect on the effective extent of post-hegemonic regionalism. Next, we analyse the current debate about this regional model and pose a few explanatory hypotheses about the recent political changes in South America that have led to a shift in attitudes towards post-hegemonic regionalism. Finally, in the conclusion we reflect on possible outcomes of the current situation.
