消費文化、博物館與社會大衆

Consumer Culture, Museums and the General Public

摘要


當代消費文化不僅影響了我們的日常生活,也改變了我們的社會關係和生活方式,更決定著我們看待這個世界和自身的根本態度。從博物館發展的角度觀之,近年來全球各地的博物館興建與成立風潮,與消費文化的關係亦極為密切。博物館做為當代文化實踐的重要場域,更應顧及大衆的生活模式,並思考做為消費文化的一環,應如何滿足今天人們的生活目的、願望與夢想,與人們的生存方式產生連結。本文試圖從當代消費文化研究的觀點,探討消費社會裡,博物館所扮演的角色與發揮的功能。本章首先分析消費文化與當代消費社會的特質。其次說明博物館處於如此社會環境時,其性質與價值產生的變化。我們試圖闡明,消費文化如何強化或削弱了博物館與社會大衆的社會關係。文章因此接續分析人們如何在消費社會中看待自我與博物館的關係。本文最後說明博物館應如何成為消費社會中人們生活價值的來源與依存,又應如何面對這些變化並自我調整其社會角色。

Contemporary consumer culture has not only influenced our day-to-day life; but has also changed our social relations and way of life, even determining the basic attitude with which we view the world and ourselves. Looking at it from the perspective of museum development, the wave of construction and establishment of museums in recent years has been very closely linked to consumer culture. Museums are important venues for the practice of contemporary culture, and should take into account the lifestyles of the general public, as well as consider how as an aspect of consumer culture to satisfy the purposes, wishes and dreams of the people of today, and how to connect with people's way of life. This article attempts, from the perspective of research into contemporary consumer culture, to explore the role of museums in a consumer society, and the functions they ought to perform. It first analyzes the features of consumer culture in contemporary consumer society, and then explains the changes produced in the nature and values of museums when they exist in this kind of social environment. The author attempts to elucidate how consumer culture has strengthened or weakened museums' social relations with the general public. This article continues with the analysis of how people in consumer society view their own relationship with museums. Finally, it illustrates how museums should become both a source of and a support for people's life values in a consumer society, and face these changes to adapt themselves to their social role.
