Food combinations are typically illustrated on traditional lunar calendars. Other than the incompatibility between foods, compatibility issues also exist between drugs and between drugs and food, commonly known as drug-nutrient interactions (DNIs). At hospitals, pharmacists are responsible for notifying patients how to take medicine correctly; however, no monitoring mechanism exists for DNIs. The proposed National Health Calendar combines traditional and modern concepts with the objective of facilitating the public in preventing the consumption of foods and drugs that are incompatible. The back cover of the National Health Calendar is a chart that shows the interaction between drugs and foods. This chart was modified from the back cover of the traditional lunar calendar, which is a table that shows incompatible food combinations that lead to food poisoning. Other than the contents of the traditional lunar calendar, which are widely applied in everyday life in Taiwan, the National Health Calendar also includes corrections of food-related myths, healthy Chinese New Year recipes, correct drug administration concepts, foods that should be avoided when taking certain drugs, and nutritional advices. A total of 6000 copies of the National Health Calendar and 10000 enlarged copies of the DNI chart were distributed between year of 2013 and 2016. A digital version of the DNI chart was also available for the public to download. As of 2015, the digital file had received 19989 views. The National Health Calendar combines modern evidence-based medicine and offers comprehensive information, thereby fulfilling its objective of promoting healthy diets and correct drug use for families.
