A herpetological survey was made for Nankan Island and Peikan Island of the Matsu Group for the first time. As a result, 12 species of reptiles and five species of amphibians were recorded from these offshore islands on the East China Continental Shelf. Of these, one gecko of the genus Gekko differed from any species of the genus recognized from eastern continent or Taiwan by a combination of external characters. One skink, tentatively identified as Sphenomorphus indicus, also varied from other conspecific populations in size and coloration. Herpetofauna of the Matsu Group seems to be more similar to that of the continent than to that of Taiwan.
