從《維摩詰經》異譯管窺音譯詞歧異的成因

On the Causes for Differences in Transliterations used in the Translations of the Vimalakirti nirdesa

摘要

語言文字無法脫離時空、文化等背景而獨立存在，研究漢譯佛典中音譯詞反映的語音現象，除了排除舊譯是必要的步驟外，那些隱沒並影響歷代經師譯字背後的不同內、外在因素，也應該為我們所重視。本文嘗試透過《維摩詰經》異譯的比較，考察譯師各自面對內外在的語音流變、文本源頭語、譯經策略與企圖等因素，以探索音譯詞如何在譯師們筆下所形成的不同面貌。

Language cannot be separated from its context in space, time, and culture to have an independent existence. The study of transliteration in Chinese Buddhist texts is important not only because it shows the need to move beyond old translations, but also because it brings to light various internal and external hidden factors that influenced the ancient translators. By comparing the transliterations used in the different translations of the Vimalakirti-nirdesa, this article attempts to examine how translators dealt with the factors of internal and external phonetic shifts, source language, and translation strategies in order to explore the reasons why translators used different transliterations.
