The Hakka community is the major dialect group among the Sabah Chinese and a staunch supporter of the development of Chinese education. There are nine Chinese "independent" secondary schools in the state today. The Tshung Tsin Secondary School, set up by the Hakka, is the largest among these Chinese secondary schools. This paper examines the establishment, development and management of this school in an attempt to better understand the nature and meaning of Chinese education and related issues on cultural preservation among the Chinese in Sabah.
