In recent years, the phrase “TIAN-LONG people" and "TIAN-LONG country" borrowed from Japanese comics became popular in Taiwan. People use "TIAN-LONG people" to label Taipei residents because they think living in Taipei, as the core area of the political and economic power, makes people feel superior to others. This study intended to find out: Are Taipei people really feel superior? and Why? Analyzing the measure of subjective social status (SSS) from "Social Change Survey in Taiwan 2007",this study yields a few findings. (1) Overall, compared with those who live in other areas, Taipei residents have significantly higher self-reported social status score. (2) Though individual characteristics (education, income, occupation) play a role in SSS, they cannot completely account for the Taipei advantage in SSS. (3) Linguistic capital is crucial accounting for the Taipei advantage in SSS. With better Mandarin and English proficiency, especially English, Taipei people generally had a higher level of subjective social status
