中鋼公司煉鋼二廠No.2 RH真空精煉設備是購自西德Vacmetal公司,77年2月開工後一年內就迅速達成能將鋼液碳含量脫至30ppm的目標,當時於生產電磁鋼之極低碳鋼種,單爐真空脫碳處理時間需24分鐘,總處理時間需32分鐘。自79年起,有鑑於IF鋼市場需求量急劇增加,積極開發快速脫碳之真空精煉技術。基於多項真空精煉技術之發展,其中包括階梯狀氬氣吹射模式之開發、1 Torr真空度維護技術之開發、強化廢氣抽除能力及最佳化抽真空啓動程序之研擬、大環流管之設計及應用等;No.2 RH真空脱碳能力獲得長足的進步。於IF鋼及電磁鋼之產製上,平均處理後碳含量逐月下降;79年7月為26.8ppm,12月首度突破低於20ppm,屢創佳績。而且,脫碳處理所需時間亦逐月下降,80年6月達成單爐脫碳時間只需15分鐘之一流鋼廠水準,總處理時間只需22分鐘,此與開工初期相比較約節省1/3處理時間。

No.2 RH vacuum degasser in No.2 steelmaking plant at CSC was established by Vacmetal Company of West Germany. The RH process was commisioned in February of 1988 and molten steel was decarburized to the objective of 30ppm in one year. At that time, it took 24 minutes for vacuum oxygen decarburization in the production of ultra-low carbon steel such as electrical steel, and the total treatment time was 32 minutes including alloying and post circulation. The decarburization ability of No.2 RH is improved significantly in combination with the development of various vacuum refining technology, which include the technique of maintance for high vacuum (1 torr), the optimized start-up procedure of steam ejectors and the enlarged suction capacity of off gas, the design and application of larger circulation legs and the optimization of argon blowing pattern for up-leg snorkel, etc. In the production of IF steel and electrical steel, the average carbon content after the RH treatment decreases accordingly by the month; in July of 1990 is 26.8ppm, in December even down to below 20ppm. Moreover, the decarburization time decreases accordingly by the month too. In June of 1991 an outstanding level is achieved: the decarburization time takes 15 minutes and the total treatment time takes 22 minutes only.
