Mucoepidermoid carcinoma, a glandular malignant tumor, is the most common in the parotid gland, the second most common in the hard palate, and very rare in the nasopharynx. The 39-year-old male herein in view of intermittent bleeding of the right nostril visited the hospital in March 2004. During that time, the nasopharyngoscopy depicted an irregular lump in the right lateral wall of the nasopharynx; the primary biopsy, the chronic inflammatory tissue. Another two biopsies one year later manifested mucoepidermoid carcinoma eventually. Thus the radiotherapy was performed immediately. The 6-month follow up found neither recurrence nor distant metastasis. Attributed to the nasopharynx in the peculiar anatomical position and radiation resistance of tumor cells, mucoepidermoid carcinoma has a worse prognosis.
