論〈虯髯客傳〉的人物虛實

摘要

〈虯髯客傳〉是唐傳奇中的名篇，唐代傳奇對於人物性格的深化，遠甚於前，〈虯髯客傳〉中的人物雕塑虛實交錯，精采獨特，歷來多有學者對此提出討論。本文從史傳與小說著手，考察〈虯髯客傳〉文學人物與歷史原型的關係，探究小說人物的塑寫技巧，進而分析他們在小說情節中所發揮的功能。分析〈虯髯客傳〉的真實人物，與史傳對照，歷史人物的面貌變動不大，隋煬帝的昏庸，楊素的驕貴，李靖的內斂，劉文靜的善相，歷史與小說相互吻合，唯一較有出入的是唐太宗李世民，小說將其形象神話，以呼應真命天子的太宗傳奇。〈虯髯客傳〉中的人物設計是虛實交錯，虛構人物包括紅拂女、虯髯客與道士，紅拂女的角色傳達出男子擇良主，女子依良夫，性別上識真主的意涵；虯髯客的存在則與李世民相互對應，表達小說天命所歸，君權神授的主旨；道士形象的設定則強化道士是大唐創國的功臣，提升道教的地位；小說的推進以虛御實，由虛構人物主導小說，希冀勸退亂世中如虯髯客一般有逐鹿中原企圖的野心家。本文除了挖掘小說人物表層風貌下的意涵，也希望為文本意義提供更深一層的補充與形塑，並為此篇小說尋找更多面向的閱讀可能。
