一種護眼複方組合物用於預防紫外線B對眼表傷害的評估

The Assessment of an Eye Care Formulation in Eyes Exposed to Ultraviolet Radiation B

摘要


乾眼症為一種常見的疾病(佔成人人口比例20-30%),主要是由於眼球表面缺乏淚液或淚液品質不佳所引起。患者會有眼睛痠澀、異物感、灼熱感或分泌物增加、暫時性視力模糊等不舒服的症狀。長期暴露於紫外線照射,會引起眼睛角膜病變。根據古書及藥典皆有記載,枸杞及杭菊具明目功效。中藥也常用杞菊地黃丸改善眼睛不適症狀,因此,尋求一種能有效預防眼表病變的中藥複方組合物將具有可能性。本研究以生理功能性評估(包含淚液分泌量、淚液品質、角膜外觀分析)以及將組織切片染色進行角膜上皮細胞層形態分析的試驗探討一種護眼複方組合物(含熟地萃取物、山桑子萃取物、綠花葉菜苗萃取物、金盞花萃取物、枸杞萃取物與杭菊萃取物)對預防紫外線對眼球的表面組織傷害。在紫外線B (UVB)連續照射下7天,2天前先餵食護眼複方組合物於低劑量(10 mg/kg/day)及高劑量(100 mg/kg/day),結果發現餵食此複方組合物能明顯增加淚液分泌量、保持角膜生理功能及維持角膜上皮層的細胞形態。綜合上述動物試驗的結果顯示此護眼複方組合物有助於預防紫外線B照射所導致的眼表傷害。

Dry eye syndrome is a common disease (accounting for 20~30% of the adult population), mainly caused by a deficiency of tears or abnormal tear composition. The general symptoms of dry eye include eye soreness, foreign body sensation, burning sensation, sticky secretions, transient blurred vision, and other related discomforts. According to the oldest written evidence and early pharmacopoeia books, wolfberry and chrysanthemum are used to improve eyesight. Qi Ju Di Huang Wan is also often used in Chinese herbal medicine to relieve discomfort in the eyes. As long term exposure to ultraviolet radiation can result in corneal damage, the aim of this study is to explore protective effect of a formulation containing rehmania root extract, bilberry extract, leaf extract, marigold extract, wolfberry extract, and chrysanthemum extract in eyes exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Functional parameters such as tear quantity, tear quality, ocular surface and corneal epithelial cellular morphology were assessed. Results showed that tear volume as well as the function and structure of the corneal endothelium were improved in both groups given either a low (10 mg/kg/day) dose or a high dose (100 mg/kg/day) formulation intake, feeding 2 days to mice prior to continuous UVB irradiation. The above results from the animal experiments concluded that this formulation could indeed prevent eye damage caused by ultraviolet radiation.
