Venerable Kong Hiap is one of the important Buddhist masters of Chinese Buddhism in Singapore. During learning the Dharma in southern Fujian, he had close fellowship with several eminent monks such as Ven. Taixu (1890-1947), Ven. Huiquan (1874-1942) and Ven. Hongyi (1880-1942). In 1937, Ven. Kong Hiap moved to Singapore to participate actively in the Chinese Buddhist sociey and also to promote the establishment of Mee Toh school after World War II. After 60 years of hard work, this school has become an excellent example of Mandrain studies and Buddhist education. Therefore, as looking at the development of Humanistic Buddhism in Singapore, it is nacessary to pay attention to the Buddhist education institution. This paper focuses on the development of Mee Toh School from the perspective of Buddhist education to analyzes its development process. Also I would like to discuss its influence on local education and charity activities in Singapore. In this paper, there are three parts: "the establishment," "local concerns," and "overseas contacts" to discuss how Chinese Buddhist communities in Singapore practice and disseminate the ideas of Humanistic Buddhism through Buddhist education.
