Application King's Theory of Goal Attainment to Analyze the Interaction between the Primary Nurse and a Bipolar Disorder Patient

The purpose of this study is to apply the king's theory of goal attainment to analyze the interaction between the primary nurse and a bipolar I disorder patient. Process recording was used to collect data. The results of content analysis show that the main reason of the initial impaired interaction between the primary nurse and the patient was attributed to different perceptions, judgments, and actions, which in turn cause different goals. The nursing goal, which was discussed by both the patient and the nurse, could only be achieved through mutual interaction and transaction. This achievement has been completed along with successful implementation of the education in illness and drug. This case study highlights the application of King's theory in nursing practice, and also discusses the limitations of the application.
