Streptococcus Bovis Meningitis and Sepsis in a Neonate: Report of One Case

新生兒牛型鏈球菌腦膜炎及敗血症:個例報告

並列摘要

Bacterial meningitis including that caused by Streptococcus bovis may produce complications in children such as hearing impairment, obstructive hydrocephalus, seizure, lower intelligence quotient, and other neurological and developmental sequelae. S. bovis is a rare, poorly diagnosed, and potentially devastating cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis. This case report describes a six-day-old neonate who suffered from S. bovis sepsis and meningitis. This infant had initial presentations of fever and transient sunset eye, a vague neurological sign of meningitis. No hearing impairment, hydrocephalus, or other neurological sequelae were found during admission and follow-up brainstem auditory evoked potential and neuroimaging examinations. Prompt diagnosis and antibiotic therapy resolved the infection. Moreover, the infant did not experience other significant age-comparable developmental delays.
