The purpose of this study was to test the relationships between Body Mass Index (BMI) and heart and lung functions of preschool children. 48 boys and 48 girls, 96 subjects in total were recruited from Sacred Heart Kindergarten at Taipei county. The average height was 114.71±5.37cm, average weight was 22.30±3.92kg, and average BMI was 16.93±2.22. Prior to 400 meter run and walk, heart rate and blood pressure was measured and spirometry was used to measure PEF、FEV1、FVC、FEV1/FVC. 400m time was recorded and blood pressure and heart rate were measured immediately. Rate Pressure Products (RPP) was also calculated as the definition of cardiovascular function in this study. Data were analyzed by SPSS using Pearson's correlation. Results showed that BMI is highly correlated to quiet RPP (p<.05). BMI was also highly correlated to all respiratory functions (P<.01). Although, there is no relation between cardiovascular function and respiratory function, 400m time was highly correlated to all respiratory functions.
