Chemotherapy is an important part of treatment for cancer patients. However, side effects of chemotherapy bother patients very much. This article addressed the nursing experience of a patient with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, who developed complications following chemotherapy. During the hospital period, the author used Gordon’s eleven-item health assessment scale to evaluate the patient. Risk for infection, nausea and body image disturbance were noted. Through nursing intervention, we helped her to reduce infection rate, reduce nauseating sensation and develop a positive attitude toward her body image. The self-care abilities and the quality of her life were both improved. We hope the experience gained from this case will be of reference for such cases in the future.
