跨國企業成長與子公司興業行為的個案研究

摘要


本研究是以一家百年、以技術創新見長的跨國企業為個案,探討其如何在全球化的趨勢中,尋求企業成長的機會,尤其針對海外子公司在以母國為中心的策略發展過程,如何透過興業精神與行動,帶動母公司的興業發展。 個案企業係以材料及製程創新的拱心石元件為其核心技術,已經成功地在不同的產業產生應用機會,並留下輝煌的成果。該企業有三成的營業額,來自於薄膜電晶體液晶顯示器關鍵元件的生產與銷售,而主要產生此一營收貢獻的的台灣子公司,為求其在區域內的永續經營,正積極尋找新產品及鄰近技術應用的商機。 本研究發現,個案企業經過了數十年的海外營運,卻無法充分運用全球化公司的機會,主要障礙在於高階主管稟持以母國為中心的全球化心態。因此,本研究建議,台灣子公司除了需要優異的表現外,還要加強與事業部及總部的關係。 首先,台灣子公司應結合不同事業部的能量,持續努力耕耘政府與地方關係,以短中長期維持現有的優勢並掌握區域內新的商業機會,將台灣子公司建立成為亞太區域的卓越中心,再將優秀人才輸出給企業總部及不同事業部,以逐步建立台灣的影響力,並兼顧到此跨國企業最大的利益。

This research demonstrates an exploratory study on how a centennial enterprise sought for business growth with globalization opportunities, with a special emphasis on the role played and initiatives taken by one of her growing subsidiaries in Asia. With entrepreneurial efforts made by the regional management, our study shows a promising opportunity for parent company’s global success. The key competence of this centennial enterprise is the keystone components created by material and process innovations that have been successfully applied in a variety of industries and have had tremendous success. Thirty percent of her current revenues comes from the supply of critical component of flat panel made by her subsidiary in Taiwan where TFT-LCD industry has a dominant position in the global market based. To pursue long term business growth in Taiwan, this subsidiary is keen to search for new product and the adjacent technology related business opportunities. This study found that the parent firm’s top management team maintains a ethnocentric mindset toward globalization development which significantly hinders the progress and potential gains from oversea operations. We therefore suggest that the subsidiary is still in need of its excellent performance as well as enhancing its connections with and contributions to the division and headquarter. Targeting at becoming a hub of excellence in the Asia-Pacific area, the main task of the subsidiary is to incorporate the resources of other divisions and strengthen the government relationship for maintaining its current high performance and looking for the long-term opportunities. Furthermore, the subsidiary can introduce the local talent to headquarter and other divisions which not only help to spread the subsidiary’s influence but also support the parent firm moving toward a transnational corporation.
