T’ang Dynasty’s poet Chia Tao (A.D.779-843) was famous for his absorption in composition and for his specially thin style. Although there has been many discussions on him, the emotions in his poems do not call much attention. This essay, hence, firstly focuses on the variations of the main emotions manifesting in Chia Tao’s poems. Futhermore, a hidden emotional complex may be discovered under these emotional variations. This complex was treasuring the self itself. Because of it, Chia Tao varied his main emotions. Finally by analyzing the complex the author wants to point out that its meanings in life are the lack of width on one hand, but on the other hand the nobleness of oneself’s honor.
