The two syntypes of "X. aenea" from the Montagne herbarium and their corresponding isosyntypes from the Leprieur herbarium were located and studied. All of these specimens are immature, but their stromatal morphology indicates that two different species are involved. One is possibly "X. enterogena", and the other apparently has characters coinciding with the original description of "X. aenea". A lectotype is herein designated. A mature Kew specimen is designated as the epitype to stabilize the application of "X. aenea".
