Sphenoid Sinus Mucocele Presenting with Optic Canal Syndrome

並列摘要

Mucocele of the sphenoid sinus is uncommon and usually remains asymptomatic until it causes compression of the surrounding structures. The mucocele may exert pressure on cranial nerves in proximity and result in a variety of clinical symptoms. We herein report a 62-year-old woman with a sphenoid sinus mucocele who developed optic canal syndrome with progressive visual compromise on the left side. Imaging studies, including CT scan and MRI, played a crucial role in the early diagnosis and provided a thorough evaluation of the extent of the mucocele and the involvement of the contiguous structures. Surgical intervention resulted in complete recovery of visual acuity.
