New records of two fungal pathogens associated with premature leaf fall of two varieties of Ficus pumila in Taiwan

Ficus pumila plays important roles in the market as ornamental (F. p. var. pumila) and food (F. p. var. awkeotsang). For both varieties of this plant species, leaf spot and premature leaf fall disease associated with two pathogenic fungi is recorded for the first time, namely a variegated ornamental cultivar of F. p. var. pumila as host of the rust fungus Cerotelium fici (Pucciniales/Uredinales) and F. p. var. awkeotsang as host of Grovesinia moricola. Both species were characterized by light and scanning electron microscopy. The diverse morphological terms and scientific names applied to Grovesinia moricola in the literature are briefly reviewed.
