The purpose of this article was to investigate effects of nursing instruction on knowledge and skill of suture wound care for patients. This research was collected from the emergency department of a hospital in Hualien City. A total of 72 patients were selected and divided into two group. Group A received only an instruction sheet for suture wound home care. Group B received the same instruction sheet and verbal instructions by the researcher. Knowledge and skill scores increased in both groups after nursing intervention. The scores of group B were higher than that of group A after nursing intervention. Nursing instruction of wound care not only improved patient' understanding of proper suture wound care, but it also improved the quality of nursing care.
