The banana peel, a major by-product of banana processing industries, has recently gained attention as a rich source of phenolic and bioactive compounds. The extract of banana peel has medicinal application as replacement to synthetic antibiotics which possess immunological properties essentially for human health; however, limited information is available on the aquaculture field. Thus, the aim of this review is to figure out the effects of products from banana peel on the phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency as well as the resistance against pathogens or hypothermal stress, and immunological responses and immune genes expression of Macrobrachium rosenbergii. According to the findings, the hot-water extract of banana peel has the potential for applying in the enhancement of the immunological response, disease resistance against Lactococcus garvieae and hypothermal stress condition, which might improve the growth performance and survival rate of M. rosenbergii culture.
