Taiwan’s Information Technology [IT] industry, in terms of the demands for the software and skills for 3D assisted designing, has constantly been at a deficit. This report targets the Pro/ENGINEER® Skills Certification’s Practical Grade Questions Database as the main subject of study, making an effort to understanding the realistic needs of the IT Industry. Research shows that the subject areas of the questions in the database differ from what the industry needs. The traits that an industrial designer exhibit that the industry is looking for include solid feature application, assembly part application, trim part application, drawing application, and surface design application. However, the Questions database lacks the variety suitable for certifying a designer’s skills & abilities. This study is therefore here to provide a new questions database system suitable to test the new generation of designers’ proficiency with Pro/ENGINEER®, based on the requirements of the industry. This new system is therefore designed to test the young designers on their Pro/ENGINEER® designing skill at the CAID stage, and allow them to enter the work force sooner, and effectively apply Pro/ENGINEER® for Product 3D modeling framework. And so with the needs of the industry as the fundamental criteria, the questions database is redesigned and improved, after which have the designers with less than three years working experience take the certification under the new database. The final conclusion is that the new database is more suitable as a certifications program for testing new designers, with the qualifying rate directly proportional to work experience. This study is helpful to the skills of new designers under the Pro/ENGINEER® certification in using the software to produce 3D designs, and closing the gap between the educational and business fields, upgrade the capabilities of our industrial designers, strengthen Taiwan’s designing standard of quality, and put Taiwan’s products on the international Market.
