It is beyond question in developmental psychology that most human psychological abilities develop as individuals grow from infancy to adulthood. Among these, perception and concept formation are two examples. In this study 21 grade 3 students and 10 adults were administered computerized versions of the Mueller-Lyer illusion and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). Results indicate that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups on both the illusion effect and the performance of the WCST including the number of perseverative errors and total number of trials. This supports the developmental theory of human cognitive abilities. Other implications, in addition to the limitations, of this study are also discussed.
