The primary school children of LinKou and Nan-Su County, were selected as the subjects for this study. From Oct. to Nov. 1977, a total of 1483 students, aged 6-12 years, were examined. They included 731 girls and 752 boys. This study shows that the average of the systolic and diastolic blood pressures in girls are 104.01±10.33/64.38±9.42 mmHg, and that in boys are 102.26±10.09/62.98±9.77 mmHg. The average pressures obtained in this study are lower than those recently found in Americans of comparable ages. This study has shown that there is a continuous rise in systolic and diastolic pressures along with the increase in ages, especially after the 9 years of age. It was observed that the girls' blood pressures are significantly higher than the boys', especially after the age of 10 years (0.01>P>0.001). A chart with the percentiles of the blood pressure for boys and girls aged 6-12 years was made and presented in this study.
