Object ellipsis after the preposition yu與 is a specific feature in Old Chinese and is related to grammatical hierarchy. Dong Xiufang董秀芳 (1998) has good viewpoints on this kind of ellipsis, but there are some issues to be further discussed. This paper deals with these ellipses through a textual approach. Lexical semantics, discourse continuity, syllabic adjustment and conversational context, as well as speaker's attitude, will be examined to provide a better interpretation.
