Survey on Nitrosamine Content in Rubber Nipples

Nitrosamines are known to be carcinogenic and have been found in nursing bottle nipples. The nitrosamine content in nursing bottle nipples was analyzed by gas chromatography-thermal energy analyzer. 36 samples including natural rubber and synthetic silicone products were analyzed. 13 samples including 3 natural rubber product and 10 silicone product met the tolerance level of 10 ppb. Silicone products have the lower nitrosamine content than natural rubber products.
