An Evaluation of Endodontic Therapy Cases Part II Follow up Study

摘要

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the results of endodontic treatment at the Department of Conservative Dentistry, Kaohsiung Medical College Hospital from May 1981 to May 1987. Approximately 30% (278/959) endodontically treated teeth, in which 536 canals (499 non-surgical treated and 37 surgical treated) with a minimum recall period of 6 months, were evaluated for success or failure. The results were as follows: (1)The overall success rate was 87.1% for teeth and 90.3% for canals. (2)Maxillary teeth showed better results than mandibular teeth. (94.9% versus 80.1%) (3)Both sexes had no significant differences in success rate. (4)Those patients in the 11─20 and 41─50 age groups had a higher failure rate. (5)The nonsurgicalluy treated canals appeared to have a slightly higher success rate than the surgically treated ones, but there was no statistically significant difference. (6)Nonvital teeth showed a trend toward a better success rate than vital teeth, but there was no significant difference. (7)Canals without periapical pathosis showed a trend toward a better success rate than canals with periapical pathosis. (8)Filling level between 1 mm under and over the apex showed better results. (9)There was a better success rate in cases over a 2 year recall period than in cases under a 2 year recall period, but no significant difference was noted.
