Measure the Porcine Jaw Bones on Coronal-Apical-Direction to Access Initial Tooth Implant Stability

Tooth implants have been developed for a long-term, a valid non-ionized technique for access jaw bone before implant surgery is still lacking. In this research a fresh porcine jaw bones have been used to simulate jaw bone and uses the speed of the ultrasound for quantitative measurement. The conventional buccal-lingual direction is different our measure direction that is the superior-inferior direction, for the latter near the real implant direction. By eliminating the influence of soft tissue yielded a more accurate jawbone measurement. We measured the thickness of the cortical bone, with an average percentage error of 2.94 %. From the experimental results, we also could measure the thickness of the soft tissue, with an average percentage error of only 4.02%. Our results indicated that the proposed method provides an accurate evaluation of initial implant stability before an operation.
