The purpose of this study is to evaluate the chemotherapy knowledge base for nurses. The research compares nurses' understanding and application of chemotherapy knowledge before and after the application of chemotherapy knowledge base. The nursing knowledge base system was based on information from reference studies, drug index of chemotherapy, and dosing instructions: which included information about drug effects, side effects, drug administration, and drug precautions. Sampling judgement was used to choose the subjects for study, and 81 nurses who worked in five chemotherapy wards in a medical center were divided into an experimental group (n=38) and a control group (n=43). The tools of research were demo- graphic questionnaires concerning chemotherapy knowledge and practice. All of the subjects were pretested, tested again after three months and then tested one final time after the fourth month. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, ANOVA, the T test, and the GEE model. The data results showed that after the chemo- therapy-knowledge base for nurses was applied, the scores of the experimental group increased noticeably (Z(subscript group*time1)=5.41, p<.0001; Z(subscript group*time2)=3.77, p=.002). The results also showed that the chemo- therapy-knowledge base for nurses did improve nurses' professional knowledge, earning it wider acceptance among nurses (73%). We hope the results are informative and useful for related organizations.
