Freedom of information is an important progress in Taiwan's democratic transition, which signifies the disclosure of government information and the protection of people's right to know and has great influence on the press to fulfill their duty of serving democracy. Based on abovementioned progress, this article highlights the relationship between freedom of information and freedom of the press. This article categorizes relevant laws regarding freedom of information and makes clear how these laws have an effect on news reporting and information gathering. Finally, this article focuses on the conflict between state secrets and freedom of the press and proposes a reconsideration of the definition and scope of state secrets and the interaction between government agencies and the press.
