摘要

由於缺乏文字記載，現在學界對日耳曼族早期活動要倚賴羅馬文獻。塔西陀斯是第一位有系統的記載日耳曼民族活動的史家，對後世影響甚大。但其所著之（日耳曼紀）卻未完整的介紹給中文世界的讀者。本文特參考英、德、日等版本，將全文譯為中文，並加導論，以便讀者了解早期日耳曼民族的歷史。

Due to the lack of writing system, the early activities of the German tribes were unknown to the World until the Roman authors started reporting on them. Tacitus was one of the Roman authors who enriched our knowledge about the German origins and culture. One of his most famous works, Germania, was translated into different languages, including Japanese. There was no serious attempt on the Chinese version until this article. The introduction should help the reader to understand the background of Tacitus and his work better.
