Studies on the Characteristic Correlation among Different Varieties of Peanut

1. The purpose of this experiment in intended to find out the characteristic correlations among several varieties of peanut in order to improve this crop.
2. In this experiment there are Sixty peanut varieties of Spanish type were used. the source of seeds included 35 varieties were keeped by this institute, 6 varieties were introduced from the foreign countries, 7 varieties were introduced from China mainland and 12 varieties are selected within productive regions of this island.
3. The characteristics of peanut varied differently among varieties in weight of fresh plant, length of stem, number of branches, color of stern, hair on stern, color of leaf, number of gynophore, Size of leaf, nodules on root, and disease-resistance.
4. No different correlation were found on the data of flowering and the color of corolla amony different vaireties with the exception of the number of gynophore.
5. The following characteristics differed among varieties such as the weight and the number of pod on each plant; the share and the size of pod, weight and number of seed on each plant, the shape and the size of seed, and the color of seed-coat.
6. From this experiment, it is concluded that, There are positive correlations among the weight of fresh plant, the ratio of seed to pod. and the weight of each pod to the total yield of pod respectively.
Negative correlation were found on the length of plant to the yield of pod.
There is no significant correlation between the number of branches, the size of leaf, length of petiole, and the weight of each seed to the total yeilds of pod.
7. Highly significant correlations were obtained among the following characterstics, namly: number of pod, weight of pod, number of seed and weight of seed within each plants.
