Five species of parasitic copepod on the red bigeye, Priacanthus macracanthus from Taiwan

摘要

Five species of copepod including 2 caligids, 1 chondracanthid, 1 hatschekid, and 1 lernanthropid parasitic on the red bigeye, Priacanthus macracanthus, of Taiwan are reported in this paper. They are: Caligus absens Ho, Lin and Chen, 2000 from wall of gill cavities, Lepeophtheirus sp. from the body surface, Hatschekia priacanthis Izawa, 2016 and Aethon priacanthi (Kirtisinghe, 1956) from gill filaments, and Parapercicola inflata Ho, Liu, and Lin, 2013 from nasal cavities. Among them, H. priacanthis and Lepeophtheirus sp. are new to Taiwan. A full re-description of H. priacanthis is provided for the sake of providing possible geographical variations of their morphology, while Lepeophtheirus sp. is temporarily treated as a possible new species. According to the previous studies, a total of six species of parasitic copepods have been recorded from examining P. macracanthus, but five of them are now known to be associated with P. macracanthus in Taiwan.
