摘要

本文旨在引介都市研究的方法論─比較都市論 (comparative urbanism)－晚近相關論辯與發展。透過討論不同都市研究議程下，比較都市論的範型轉移過程及論辯，本文指出，比較都市論於過去四十年間，無論是認識論或本體論上，均產生相當程度的反省與質變。藉由近年來比較都市論的案例研究，可看出比較都市論作為一都市研究方法論的潛力與限制。「(新) 比較都市論」開展自千禧年初，植基於後殖民與後結構地理學而蓬勃發展。在方法學上，它展現了突破既有二元認識論框架的企圖 (例如：全球南方∕北方、東方/西方、已發展∕未發展)。近年來，其與拼裝理論 (assemblage theory) 的接合，發展出「移動都市論 (mobileurbanism)」與「都市拼裝體 (urban assemblages)」等比較研究方法，跨越了既有比較研究在對稱結構上的限制。比較都市論的變革，反映出批判人文地理研究者們希望能讓書寫成為一種更貼近當前現實世界的知識生產實踐。然而，回顧過去十年來比較都市論的發展，(新) 比較都市論的倡議再度掀起新一波論辯。

This study reviews recent debates and the development of urban research methodology into comparative urbanism. By discussing the paradigm shift and debates of comparative urbanism across different urban research agendas, this paper demonstrates that the epistemology and ontology of comparative urbanism has experienced reflections and qualitative transitions. Empirical studies applying comparative urbanism are performed to observe the potentials and limits of comparative urbanism as an evolving urban research methodology. The (new) comparative urbanism, cultivated by the post-colonial and post-structuralist geographies, has robust development since the turn of the Millennium. The research methodology attempts to transcend the existing dichotomist epistemological frameworks (for example, Global South/North, East/West, underdeveloped/ developed). Articulation between comparative urbanism and assemblage theory has recently further developed research threads such as ＂mobile urbanism＂ and ＂urban assemblages＂ that aim to move beyond the limits of symmetrical comparative methods. The transformation of comparative urbanism reflects the hopes of critical human geographers that writing as a praxis should reflect contemporary multilateral movements in the complex nexus between knowledge production and real world. However, retrospective consideration of the (new) comparative urbanism in the past decade has led to a further debate about its prospects.
