苜蓿(Medicago sativa L.)為多年生之重要豆科之芻料作物,其若遭遇雨季則常因淹水而萌芽困難及發育不良,為探討不同苜蓿品種於台灣地區栽培時,淹水對種子發芽及萌芽之影響,本試驗以中東苜蓿(Middle East alfalfa)及台灣用的栽培品種Hunter River苜蓿種子為材料,進行培養皿及田間之淹水試驗,將種子分別浸潤或播種0、1、2天後,再分別淹水0、1、2、3天。結果顯示不同淹水處理對於苜蓿種子之發芽速率及平均發芽日數之影響Hunter River較中東苜蓿為大;田間試驗之萌芽會隨淹水時問增加而延遲,中東苜蓿萌芽率及萌芽速率均高於Hunter River,而平均萌芽日數則低於Hunter River;苜蓿種子於淹水後電導度值快速增加,以浸潤2天淹水3天之電導度值最高,Hunter River與中東苜蓿分別可達190.8及156.9μmho/50 seeds/30 ml。以TTC (2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride)處理淹水之苜蓿種子之胚根,由呈現的色澤發現淹水使根的活力降低,但中東苜蓿淹水後根的活力優於Humter River。綜合上述結果,中東苜蓿較Hunter River苜蓿具較高之淹水耐受性。
Alfalfa (Madicago saliva L.) is an important perennial forage stop for feeding dairy cows in Taiwan. Alfalfa will not emerge and grow well when it is waterlogged in a rainy season. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of waterlogging on germination and emergence of alfalfa seeds. Alfalfa cultivars Hunter Riser (HR) and Middle East (ME), were used in this study. Alfalfa seeds, after imbibing or sowing for 0, 1, and 2 days, were checked over four waterlogging durations, 0, 1, 2, and 3 days. The results showed effects of waterlogging on germination rates and mean germination day of HR were more significant than those for ME. The emergences in the held were delayed as the waterlogging duration increased. The emergences and emergence rates of ME were higher than those of HR, but the mean emergence days of ME were lower than those of HR. Electric conductivity (EC) of alfalfa seeds, both of ME and HR, significantly increased with an increase in waterlogging periods. The ECs, both of HR and ME, in 2-day sowing and 3-day waterlogging were the highest of all the treatments. The ECs were 190.8 μ mho and 156.9μmho of HR and ME, respectively. The results of the TTC treatments showed the root activities, both of MR and HR. decreased after they were waterlogged for the third day, hut the root activities of ME were still higher than those of HR. This result indicated that ME was more tolerant to waterlogging stress than HR.
