To evaluate the relationships between the dental caries of 6-14-year-old children and their parents' socioeconomic status in Kaohsiung County, 1671 children aged 6 to 14 years participated in this study, The results showed that with a higher socioeconomic status of the parents, the decayed, missing, filled teeth (DMFT) index and caries prevalence were lower, and the filling rate was higher in the children, For fathers and mothers with a college education or higher, values of the DMFT index of their 6-14-year-old children were 1.77 and 1.48, while those children whose fathers and mothers had a primary school education or less, the values were 3.53 and 3.48, Differences in .both values were statistically significant (p<0.0001). For fathers and mothers whose vocations were on level 4, values of the DMFT index of their 6-14-year-old children were 1.66 and 1.23, while for those fathers and mothers whose vocations were on level 1, the values were 2.71 and 2.51. Differences in both values were statistically significant (p<0.0001). In this study, there were statistically significant relationships noted between children' caries and their parents' socioeconomics status Families are the main resources for oral health knowledge and habits of children. Determining how to decrease the disparities of caries prevalence of children of parents with different socioeconomic statuses would be a important subject of education and public health.
