Hillslope hydrologists often use Philip's equation to predict infiltration because the equation was developed from a physical basis. Philip's equation contains two parameters: sorptivity and parameter related to the soil saturated hydraulic conductivity. Two parameters in this equation have physical meaning. Simulated rainfall was applied to test plots with different land covers in Lien-hua-chi and Pi-lu-chi areas, central Taiwan. Eased on the results, the final infiltration rate of respective test plot in decreasing order was as follows: natural forest, grass land, bamboo plantation, def crested land, orchard, China-fir plantation and bare land. The values of two parameters of Philip's equation have been determined by data from test plots with simulated rainfall. The relationship between the final infiltration rate and soil macro-porosity was found significant.
