公共圖書館兒童服務未來的展望

摘要

二十世紀毫無疑問是公共圖書館發展最快速的時代，但許多人已開始擔心二十一世紀似乎將成為傳統人性化公共圖書館服務的終結者。著者指出當民眾也運用科技節省了許多時間的同時，他們也會運用這些時間來要求圖書館為他們提供更多的服務，這些服務可能是當初所未曾預想到的。文中引用南澳洲學董對公共圖書館服務末來的期許，提供國內從業者之參考，並針對我國兒童服務的，提出數項做法，以協助實現公共圖書館在新世紀中更多元而複雜的責任，順利的導引兒童，使其在新資訊時代中不致迷失了方向。

There is no doubt about me twentieth century being an era that public libraries have flourished and developed successfully to serve all users. Nevertheless the flourishing development of information technology into the coming new era of the 21th century caught people's mind for it might possibly terminate public libraries services and become a substitute for librarianship. Despite of the misconception that the demise of public libraries is inevitable, the author argues for the essential improvements that public libraries may provide for the children of the Republic of China in the near future to assure the complex responsibilities of public libraries and its inherent role to keep young users well oriented in the information age.
