西方國家的公共圖書館與地方文獻服務

The Local Collections Services of Public Libraries in Western Countries

摘要

近年來有關地方文獻的相關課題成為大眾所關注的焦點。事實上，提供地方文獻服務原本就是公共圖書館的重要工作項目之一，而從西方國家之公共圖書館的發展過程中，亦可以得到驗證。本文主要介紹英國、美國、北歐、澳大利亞等國家之公共圖書館的地方文獻服務情況。綜合各國的發展情形可以發現，促進公共圖書館地方文獻工作的主要因素有：本土化的運動、學術界的重視、教育界的需求；而公共圖書館辦理地方文獻工作的特徵則包括有：重視非書資料、考慮資料集中、相關機構合作、善用資訊科技。

Local collections services are the very important mission of public libraries. This article describes the developments of local collections services of public library in some western countries, including: U.K., U.S.A., Norway, Sweden, Finland and Australia. Synthesize these countries' developments about local collections services of public libraries, some key points can be concluded: Due to the campaign of localization, the needs of relative materials for research and education, the services are promoted widely. The characteristics of the services are: the role of non-book materials, whether centralization of collections or not, the cooperation of institutions, and the application of information technologies.
