This article expresses my personal experience and observation as a librarian and an administrator in career planning for librarians in Cultural Affairs Bureau.The issue of career planning can be viewed from a personal perspective or an organizational perspective. This article is to ascertain the value of librarians in the public libraries. From there, the article discusses vital steps in career planning from self-awareness, choice of profession, duty and unit assignments to self-development. This article draws on my personal experience in the career planning for librarians. The article also views from the perspective of the library administrators on career planning for the librarians. It discusses the methods for the library administrators to assist the librarians in career development and create a mutually beneficial relationship between the library and its librarians.
