Recently, continuing professional education has become a topical issue within the context of the rapid changes that are taking place in the library profession, changes brought about by the explosion of advanced technology. In Taiwan, although there are a lot of needs of continuing professional education for public librarians, they can not afford to take training leaving their libraries because of sparse manpower. As web-based instruction is gradually popular, the article mainly discusses the web-based continuing education for librarians. It explores some successful models of web-based continuing education, web-based course designing and pedagogic strategies. The CPD framework of CILIP is also introduced. Finally, the article uses the distance learning of University of Wales, Department of Information Studies as an example to illustrate a good web-based continuing education model.
